About the Captain
Captain John Mauser is a fly fishing and light tackle guide out of Swansboro, North Carolina. He has been fishing the waters of North Carolina for thirty years. John spent his early years on the Chowan River in the North East part of the state hunting for bluegill and bass. The Chowan river was also the location where he first cast a fly rod…throwing little popping bugs at lily pads in search of bass. In his teenage years, he became more familiar with the great saltwater fishing available along the coast. John graduated from UNC Wilmington with a Marine Biology Degree and soon started working for the North Carolina Aquariums. For the past 12 years Mauser has called Swansboro his home and has spent a great deal of his time learning the local waters. He and his wife Kim have two young sons, Tucker and Zane, who always keep life interesting. John is also the program lead for the local Project Healing Water's Program, which rehabilitates disabled military veterans through fly tying and fly fishing activities.
Most of the time, John can be found poling his skiff along the inshore waters of the Crystal Coast. His favorite targets are redfish and false albacore…but he also spends time chasing spanish mackerel, bluefish, speckled trout, sharks, and countless other species. During the Spring spawning run, John fishes for Shad, Striped Bass and other species that are found in North Carolina’s Coastal Rivers. John looks forward to sharing his love for the waters of the Carolina Coast with others.

About Tailing Tide Guide Service
There are lots of guide services to choose from, depending on what you are looking to get out of your trip. We provide trips that are mainly based around North Carolina’s inshore shallow water fishery. Whenever possible we prefer to target fish by sight fishing. To us, there is nothing more exciting than stalking and casting to a redfish slowly pushing it's way through ankle deep water. Except for shark fishing and kid friendly trips, where we can use bait, we prefer to fish strictly with flies and artificials. We love having kids aboard, and also provide family friendly trips to get you and your children out on the water to catch some bottom fish and experience the outdoors. Our trips can range in location from Cape Lookout, Beaufort, Morehead City, Emerald Isle, Swansboro or New River depending on where the fish are biting.
What we aim to provide, is a fun day on the water and long lasting memories of your trip. We aren’t concerned with big egos and trying to load coolers with fish. You can expect to have a captain that will give his 100% to show you a great time, teach you something new, and introduce you to the beauty of coastal North Carolina.
