Welcome to Tailing Tide Guide Service, operated by Capt John Mauser and based out of Swansboro, North Carolina.
We are a full-time, year-round guide service that specializes in Fly Fishing and Light Tackle Charters. Our trips are based around North Carolina’s inshore shallow water fishery, our nearshore ocean fishery and our coastal river fishery. Whenever conditions allow, we love to target fish by sight fishing for them. Whether it's tailing Redfish, blitzing Albacore, or Stripers rolling on the surface...it's exciting, it's challenging, and it's what we live for. Over the last two decades Capt John has spent thousands of days learning the Crystal Coast's fishery and loves to share that knowledge with his fellow anglers.
What we aim to provide, is a fun day on the water and long-lasting memories of your trip. You can expect to have a captain that will give his 100% to show you a great time, teach you something new, and introduce you to the beauty of coastal North Carolina. After two decades of making my living on these waters, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for far more than the fish. My background in biology and photography has led me to spend just as much time paying attention to the birds, wildlife, barrier islands, and ecosystems that make the Crystal Coast special. I offer private experiences focused on exploring and understanding these places, whether that means watching wild horses and shorebirds, learning about our coastal ecosystems, photographing wildlife, searching for shells and fossils, or simply spending time exploring the islands. These trips are designed for anyone who wants to experience the natural side of the Crystal Coast with a knowledgeable local guide.

About the Crystal Coast
North Carolina's Crystal Coast in an 85-mile stretch of beach, maritime forest and marsh that runs from Cape Lookout to New River. The Crystal Coast is truly a "gem", and earns it's nickname with beautiful waters and unspoiled beaches. The Crystal Coast is a popular destination with parks, aquariums, forts, piers, family entertainment, shopping, restaurants, and lodging.
